Weekend Library Reclusion

The whole weekend at the library, working on a couple of pending papers I needed urgently to deliver, drifting over and over into the history, sociology and anthropology of Mexico during this past days of booze abstinence.

It's written: Jason it's gonna get APAP (as pedo as possible) once in Avenida Revolución, the happiest street on Earth. Tequilas & Beer. Anyone care to join? The guy that losses 2 out of 3 vencidas gets to pay the bill.

Invitación a Reforma Newspaper

There was an invitation of Reforma on my inbox yesterday, apparently escritores carnales del south of the border (like Eduardo Antonio Parra & Heriberto Yépez) wrote pieces on the latest wave of violence passing thru, and now the editors decided to invite a couple of literary pochos & gringos to share points of view. I'm honored to be a part of the group.

There's a big scandal in progress after Ambassador Tony Garza closed down the Nuevo Laredo U.S. Consulate on aug 1st, the Narcomurders, the Minuteman white trash taking over Potrero and El Campo California in the lands of Governator, and the ever-growing bodys of campesinos trying to cross into McDonalandia. Same old, same old, and we somehow cynically still call these 'News'.

So it seems the trip down south has to be earlier than thought. Tijuanos: anybody on-line?

mission.

So my project is pretty simple. I will travel south of the border to document life 'as is', stripping myself of everykind of academic jargon,sanitized theoretical notions, and preconceived ideas of what Mexico is, in order to prove that another journalism is possible: from the people to the people, and staying as far as possible of the corporate cliches of CNN & the like.

I always keep on my mind mi abuela was always up-to-date, because of the never-ending chismes, the gossip. And anybody who has a half-critical mind, can see that corporate news in America use the same model: gossip.

My mission is to find what lies in the south, just across the boundaries of what we became, when our parents decided to cross the limits of Mexico. And of course, dive into the precious matter which makes both countries different, as much as it permits cultural hybrids and trasnational crosspollination.

This is a Test

Esto es un Testo.

It's easy to find the roots of words when you're proficient in spanish as a second language. Testo comes from old italian, which was employed as the official language of Hispania (the kingdom which later became Spain). Testo has an evident connection with Texto. Speaking is of course, an essay in progress, so this is a reference to the proverbial wisdom which made Socrates and Confucius whom they are today. Test -> Text -> Flowing Essay of Words in Progress: A Test. The flowing wisdom of the moving words. Sounds fantastico.

I can only thank my parents from crossing the desert all the way from Chihuahua, into the San Fernando Valley. Gente Valiente, indeed.
